What did America pass down to us and what do we do with it now?
Join me for historical deep dives, cultural archaeology, and family stories that challenge what we thought we knew.
I'm Danielle Romero. M. Ed., and my content is all about exploring the nuances of American identity and unearthing hidden historical narratives. My great grandmother Lola left her heritage behind in Louisiana when she moved to NY in the 1930s. I decided to uncover our family story and begin finding our roots. I'm still on the journey of hidden heritage, genealogy and finding out how our family history fits in the context of community history!

I am absolutely devastated to share the passing of my great Uncle Danny (Lola's son). I'll be sitting down to record on his legacy, but Uncle Danny shared so much of what he knew about his mother's experience leaving Louisiana for NY and the difficult experiences he had as a child.
He gave me unbelievable wealth in the knowledge of family history. This channel would never have existed without his willingness to be vulnerable and share with me what he knew and what he still didnt understand. Rest in peace Uncle Danny, I love you!

Ive read so many of your comments telling me that DNA companies say that their tests are for "entertainment purposes only"....so I went looking for that line. You will never believe what I uncovered. You were right. Kinda.

this friday: Are DNA Tests Fake? I Read the Fine Print.
Every time I post DNA results, somebody tells me these tests are “for entertainment purposes only.” So I went looking for who wrote those words. my search took me through a 2013 government letter to 23andMe, a lawyer’s blog post and a tribe that sued a university to get its own blood back. The exact sentence is real, it’s on a company’s website, and I show you what company on friday!

Hey everyone, Dani here. ❤️
I wanted to say a massive thank you to this incredible family we've built.
I’ve been thinking about the idea of "1,000 True Fans." It’s this belief that you don't need a massive crowd to make a difference, just a passionate group of people who truly care about the work, show up for the history, and protect our space
That is exactly what you are to me. Because of your love, your emails, and your shared stories, I get to keep digging into these hidden histories completely independently.
I promised a behind the scenes video after hitting 200k--- let me know what I should include!
Thank you for being the absolute heart and soul of NYTN.
