26-Year-Old Woman Arrested After Allegedly Hiding Drugs Inside Bread for Detained Boyfriend

A 26-year-old Kenyan woman has been arrested after allegedly attempting to smuggle drugs concealed inside a loaf of bread to her boyfriend, who is being held in police custody.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) announced the arrest in a statement issued on Monday, September 21, 2026.

According to the DCI, Bernice Achieng’ went to Buruburu Police Station in Nairobi to visit her boyfriend and asked officers to deliver a loaf of bread to him.

However, officers became suspicious after noticing that the loaf was unsealed.

A search of the bread reportedly uncovered five rolls of bhang and a matchbox hidden inside it.

The discovery prompted officers to conduct a further search of Achieng’, during which seven additional rolls of bhang were allegedly found inside the pocket of her jacket.

This brought the total number of rolls recovered to 12.

The DCI said the visit to her detained boyfriend ultimately resulted in Achieng’ being taken into custody herself.

“A visit to a detained boyfriend instead landed a 26-year-old woman in police custody, after officers manning Buruburu Police Station’s report office desk discovered bhang hidden inside a loaf of bread,” the agency stated.

The police said the recovered exhibits have been secured, while Achieng’ remains in custody and is expected to be arraigned in court.

Italy Plans School Ban on Face Coverings, Foreign Student Limits


Italy is preparing to introduce new measures that would ban face coverings in schools and place limits on the number of foreign students allowed in individual classrooms.

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni announced the proposed measures on Sunday, September 20, 2026, while speaking at a youth event organised by her political party.

Meloni said the proposals would soon be presented to the Italian cabinet for consideration. The planned package includes a ban on burqas and niqabs in schools, a requirement for parents of pupils experiencing what the government describes as “serious difficulties integrating” into Italy’s national school system to learn Italian, as well as restrictions on the number of places available to foreign pupils.

Speaking at the rally organised by Gioventù Nazionale, the youth wing of her Brothers of Italy party, Meloni said she considered it unacceptable for Italian children to become a minority within classrooms in their own country.

“It is unacceptable that in an Italian classroom the children who end up feeling pushed into a corner are Italian children because they have become the minority. That cannot be allowed,” Meloni said.

She also criticised what she described as an ideological approach to integration, arguing that some people who advocate for such policies do not encounter the same challenges in the schools attended by their own children.

“Calling all this integration is yet another lie, a convenient lie for those who live off ideology, for those who preach to us from their living rooms and then send their own children to schools where this problem does not exist,” she said.

Meloni’s proposed measures come as several European countries maintain restrictions on face coverings. France and Belgium, for example, already prohibit face coverings in public places, while Austria has introduced restrictions affecting schools.

Other European countries, including Spain and Poland, have constitutional protections for freedom of conscience and religion.

The Italian government’s proposed measures are expected to be considered by the cabinet as part of its wider approach to integration and education.

Fiji Declares National Health Emergency as HIV Cases Surge to 1 in 60 Adults

Fiji has declared a national health emergency following a sharp rise in HIV cases, with health officials warning that the country is facing an epidemic.

Health and Medical Services Minister Dr Ratu Atonio Lalabalavu said the government estimates that one in every 60 adults in Fiji is now living with HIV, compared with one in 167 five years ago.

The country recorded 2,060 new HIV diagnoses in 2025, while officials also reported that one in 50 pregnant women is living with HIV.

South African Woman Jailed 25 Years in Nigeria for Importing 5.75kg of Heroin

A Federal High Court in Abuja has sentenced 38-year-old South African woman, Will Jessica Ann, to 25 years in prison for importing 5.75 kilogrammes of heroin into Nigeria.

Ann was arrested at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, while arriving from Doha on a Qatar Airways flight with her three-year-old son.

She had pleaded guilty to unlawfully importing the heroin into Nigeria. During sentencing, Justice Obiora Egwuatu said the law does not bow to emotions, adding that “crime does not pay.”

The court sentenced her to 15 years on one count and 25 years on another, with the terms to run concurrently.

The court also ordered that the seized heroin be destroyed if she does not appeal within the prescribed period.

Nigerian Man Jailed 10 Months After Exposing Himself to Woman on UK Train

A Nigerian man, Babatunde Odutola, 36, has been sentenced to 10 months in prison after exposing himself and engaging in indecent behaviour in front of a woman on a train travelling towards Manchester.

According to British Transport Police, Odutola approached the woman, became aggressive after she refused to engage with him, and then exposed himself while telling her to “come over.”

A fellow passenger intervened and helped the distressed woman leave the carriage, while CCTV footage captured the incident.

Odutola was arrested after the train arrived at Manchester Piccadilly and was subsequently prosecuted. He later pleaded guilty in court.
