Israel’s general election on 27 October is widely seen as a referendum on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
But it is also a contest over the future of Palestinian citizens of Israel
Nearly every major Israeli party is seeking to exclude Palestinian parties from government.
A Supreme Court decision to disqualify Ra’am and the Joint List was later overturned.
Across the political spectrum, politicians are invoking fears of Palestinian citizens to mobilise their supporters and discredit rivals.
Other campaign pledges promise to ‘Judaise’ the Negev and Galilee, demolish Palestinian Bedouin homes in “unrecognised” villages, and impose further building restrictions
As the campaign puts land, demography, and Jewish supremacy at the centre of the debate, what future awaits Palestinian citizens of Israel?

Saudi Arabia has executed two Bangladeshi nationals, a man and a woman, after convicting them of committing what authorities described as an indecent sexual act inside a mosque in Mecca.
According to the Saudi Interior Ministry, the pair were sentenced to death after a court found them guilty of violating the sanctity of the mosque.
The sentences were upheld and approved by royal order before being carried out on Wednesday.
Authorities did not specify the exact nature of the act or provide further details about the circumstances of the case.

Tel Aviv University is reportedly seeking to remove a Palestinian student from university housing over a poster referencing the Nakba and the Palestinian right of return.
According to Arab48, the dispute centres on the student's display of a poster addressing the displacement of Palestinians in 1948 and their right to return to their homes.
The case raises questions about freedom of expression and the treatment of Palestinian students at Israeli universities, particularly when expressing Palestinian national identity and historical memory.

The UK is expanding its sanctions powers to target individuals, companies and financial institutions involved in supporting illegal Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank.
The new measures could allow British authorities to freeze assets and impose travel bans on those financing, facilitating or benefiting from settlement activity. They also extend to individuals obstructing humanitarian aid or involved in serious unlawful detention.
The move comes as Israel advances plans for 1,234 new settlement homes in the E1 area of the occupied West Bank, a project widely criticised for threatening the viability of a future Palestinian state.
The expanded powers take effect on Thursday and require parliamentary approval within 28 days.

New York City comptroller Mark Levine has reportedly abandoned plans to reinvest city pension funds in Israel Bonds following more than a year of pressure from pro-Palestinian activists.
The Break the Bonds NYC campaign welcomed the decision as a victory for the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement, which has called for an end to public investments supporting Israel.
The city's previous comptroller, Brad Lander, ended its longstanding investments in Israeli sovereign bonds in 2023.
Activists say the latest development marks another step towards their broader goal of divesting New York City's pension funds from Israel.

Forces under the command of warlord Khalifa Haftar in eastern Libya have executed at least 31 people following military trials that Human Rights Watch says were grossly unfair.
The executions took place between late August and 10 September, marking the first known executions in Libya since 2010, according to the organisation.
Human Rights Watch said some convictions relied on confessions allegedly extracted through torture, while civilians were tried in military courts despite legal objections to their jurisdiction.
The organisation warned that at least 50 more prisoners held at Gernada military prison, east of Benghazi, face imminent execution and urged authorities to halt the death sentences.

People across the world took to the streets and organised a wide range of actions in solidarity with Palestine, urging governments, businesses and institutions to take meaningful steps in response to the ongoing war in Gaza. Their demands included imposing an arms embargo on Israel, ending political and economic complicity, securing a permanent ceasefire, ending the occupation, and ensuring the release of Palestinian prisoners.
These images capture some of the many demonstrations, marches and acts of solidarity held worldwide over the weekend of 10 October, marking three years since the start of the genocide in Gaza.
Since the war began, more than 74,000 Palestinians have been killed, around two million people have been displaced, and vast areas of the Gaza Strip have been destroyed.
