Speaking at a Board of Peace gathering on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York on Wednesday, former UK prime minister Tony Blair said Gaza could only achieve peace if it was no longer controlled by Hamas.

“There is talk of free Palestine, but for Palestinians living in Gaza, they don't need a slogan; they need a solution,” Blair said.

“To be free, Gaza must live in peace with its neighbours and with itself. And this cannot happen if it's governed by those who use Gaza as a base for war against a neighbour it has no chance of defeating.”

In response, Jeremy Corbyn - the parliamentary leader of Your Party and a former UK Labour leader - posted on social media that “Palestinians need Tony Blair to stay away from Gaza”.

“The solution is an end to the occupation - and we will never stop until there is real freedom for Palestine,” he added.

Skyrocketing inflation in Lebanon, compounded by the country’s chronic electricity crisis and rising fuel prices, is putting further pressure on household budgets and pushing more families towards poverty, raising questions over whether growing economic hardship could trigger another nationwide uprising.

Financial expert Mounir Younes told The New Arab that inflation in Lebanon was currently running at around 16-17%, which he described as among the highest rates in the world.

The latest economic shock comes amid ongoing Israeli occupation and attacks on the south, with the World Bank saying Lebanon’s economy is projected to contract by 6.4% in 2026 after renewed Israel-Hezbollah fighting derailed a fragile recovery.

The Joint List of Israel's Palestinian parties has condemned its ban from the upcoming Knesset elections in October, telling The New Arab that the decisions are "based on racism" and reflect the "hypocrisy of those who claim to support democracy".

The Joint List, made up of Hadash, Ta'al and Balad, is one of two major Arab-Israeli political blocs representing Palestinian citizens of Israel, the other being the United Arab List (Ra'am), which was also barred from the election.

A spokesperson for the Joint List told The New Arab that it understood the bans "to be political decisions based on racism against Arab Palestinian citizens and anyone who opposes the Israeli occupation", adding that the list was the only alternative political force in Israel that opposed Israel's occupation of the Palestinian territories and respected international law.

Israeli army forces blew up the house of Palestinian prisoner Dawas Hassoun, 57, in Beit Imrin, northwest of Nablus in the occupied West Bank, on 24 Sep.

Hassoun was arrested in March 2026, with Israeli authorities claiming “he killed a settler around a year and a half ago”.

The photographs document the demolition, including the damaged house and the surrounding area. The demolition comes as part of what Palestinians describe as an Israeli policy of demolishing the homes and property of Palestinian prisoners, further worsening living conditions for their extended families and leaving them without shelter.

Yosef Haim Ben-David, the main perpetrator in the brutal 2014 killing of Palestinian teenager Mohammed Abu Khdeir, has died in prison at the age of 42.

According to Israeli media, citing the Israel Prison Service, Ben-David died following a medical episode while serving a life sentence plus 20 years.

In July 2014, Ben-David and two accomplices abducted 16-year-old Abu Khdeir outside a mosque in occupied East Jerusalem’s Shu’afat neighbourhood, beat him, and burned him alive in a nearby forest. The killing sparked widespread protests and unrest across Palestine.

Macklemore has announced a new “Free Palestine Tour” in the wake of his controversial removal from Ed Sheeran’s Loop tour.

In a post on social media, Macklemore said the new tour comes amid a broader shift in how artists are expected to use their platforms, arguing that being apolitical during a genocide is no longer enough. He also urged other artists to stand in solidarity with Palestinians.

The tour will begin with dates in Dublin, Paris and London, with US dates and additional artist announcements to follow.

A US federal court has dismissed a lawsuit against the Palestine Chronicle and its editor, Ramzy Baroud, after the three plaintiffs asked to withdraw the case. Judge Tiffany Cartwright granted their request on September 15, closing the case after more than two years of litigation.

The plaintiffs had alleged that the publication was linked to their captivity in Gaza through its publication of work by Palestinian journalist Abdallah Aljamal. The Chronicle denied the allegations throughout the case.

Its lawyer, Dan Kovalik, called the outcome “a big victory” for the outlet and free speech.
