A lot of posting about overlanding online has become about posting the latest gear, your new car, your fancy setup, and all the money you’re spending. But it’s so important to remember that we all started somewhere.
The first car we really overlanded in was a Jimny called Jolene. She made us fall in love with adventure, camping, overlanding, and exploring Southern Africa. We had a simple @campmastersa tent, a random guy made us an awning, and we loved every bit of it. Fun fact: before that, we were exploring and camping with our Hyundai i10.
The car we have now, our Defender, our @dometicfrontrunnerseriesza rooftop tent, all of our kit and gear — we acquired it slowly over time with our own money. It took a long time, and it wasn’t an overnight thing.
So if you’re just beginning, or you feel like your version of overlanding and exploring isn’t what people share online — I promise you, people want to see it. There are so many people who want to start, and they need to see what starting looks like 💚
