Benchrest Marksman

Benchrest Marksman is Australia’s voice for rimfire precision, firearm freedom, and resilience under pressure.

I’m a competitive shooter living with a disability and I don’t just shoot tight groups; I fight for your rights. Through gear reviews, ammo tests, and real-world advocacy, I help shooters stay sharp, skilled, and informed in a changing world.

This channel exists to build skill, confidence, and community — because freedom is a responsibility, and precision is power.

I was looking through Facebook and came across this post about Nathan from EDGE of the Outback.

Nathan has been involved in a serious accident and there is now a GoFundMe set up to help support him and his family while he recovers.

I know a lot of people in the hunting and shooting community follow Nathan and enjoy his content, so I wanted to share this here as well.

If you’re in a position to help, you can find the GoFundMe here:

www.gofundme.com/f/nathans-recovery-fund-s4zwc

Even if you can’t donate, sharing it around may help it reach more people.

Wishing Nathan and his family all the best with his recovery.

What’s frustrating you most in Australia right now?

Firearms laws? Cost of living? Housing? The NDIS? Government waste? Crime? Over-regulation? Something else entirely?

I’m planning the next run of videos and I want to know what you actually want me to talk about.

Drop the issue below that you think isn’t getting enough attention, or isn’t being talked about honestly enough.

I’ll go through the comments and pick some for upcoming videos.

THE NONSENSE OF THE OFFER

The NSW Government is calling this “fair compensation”.

I’m struggling to see how.

Licensed firearm owners have spent their own money, followed the rules, paid licence fees, complied with storage requirements and legally purchased their firearms.

Now the rules change, and some owners are being told what they can keep and what they have to surrender.

Then comes the buyback offer.

For many firearms, especially competition and higher-end firearms, the amount being offered may be nowhere near what the owner actually paid.

That’s the nonsense of it.

If the government changes the law and forces someone to give up legally owned property, fair compensation should actually reflect the value of that property.

Otherwise the law-abiding owner is the one left paying for the government’s decision.

That isn’t something people should just shrug their shoulders at.

Your property. Their rules. Their price.

I know I’ve been pretty quiet on here for a while, so I thought I’d explain where I’ve been.

Life has been bloody busy.

Between work, running my own business, studying, family life and everything else that seems to get thrown at you as an adult, this channel ended up taking a back seat.

I also got to a point where I wasn’t really sure what I wanted to do with Benchrest Marksman anymore.

My interests have grown well beyond just shooting, and I didn’t want to keep posting content simply for the sake of keeping a page active.

The reality is, shooting content has also become difficult to make. With the laws, restrictions and red tape around firearms here in Australia, it isn’t exactly easy to regularly get out and film. If you don’t have reliable access to a suitable property or range where you can set up, shoot and film properly, your options are pretty limited.

So I stepped away for a bit.

But I’ve missed having somewhere to talk, share an opinion and hear what other Australians think.

That’s why I’m coming back just with a bit of a different direction.

I still enjoy shooting and benchrest, and that content isn’t disappearing. But I also want to talk about the stuff affecting ordinary Australians: cost of living, housing, mental health, disability and the NDIS, politics, work, family, community issues and whatever else gets people talking.

Basically, real conversations about life in Australia.

You might agree with me. You might think I’m completely full of shit. Either way, I want the conversation.

So yeah… I haven’t disappeared.

I’ve just been living life.

Now I’m back

A) Yes — and I’d prefer someone who understands the shooting community
B) Yes — but background wouldn’t matter to me
C) Maybe — depending on the situation
D) No — I wouldn’t seek counselling

Feel free to explain your answer if you’re comfortable.
