“The Projection” is HERE 🥳

Happy Election Day Eve!!!

I wanted to let you know my plans for tomorrow night and Wednesday morning — and beyond!

My friend Chuck Todd and I — along with the amazing team at Decision Desk HQ — will be presenting a LIVEstream of best-in-class election results and analysis starting at 6 pm eastern Tuesday. We are ALSO doing a LIVE show in DC Tuesday night!

Here’s the Axios writeup of the new show, the live event and our future plans:

Chuck Todd and Chris Cillizza are teaming up with Decision Desk HQ to host “The Projection,” a live election night broadcast, Axios has learned.

The show features two of Washington, D.C.’s most well-known political pundits and gives them a platform to deliver their own real-time results directly to viewers.

NBC News veteran Todd launched his own media company after leaving the network.

Cillizza is a former Washington Post and CNN politics guru turned independent journalist.

“The Projection” will begin streaming at 6pm ET Nov. 3 for audiences across YouTube, X and Substack, as well as Decision Desk HQ’s Votes portal and the Noosphere app.

Noosphere is a subscription platform that connects journalists directly with their audiences. Both Todd and Cillizza are on its roster of journalists. Todd is also an investor.

The event, which is invitation-only for those attending in person, will take place at a pub in downtown Washington, D.C.

The live broadcast is presented by Kalshi and Noosphere.

Todd and Cillizza’s livestream is unique in that Decision Desk HQ analysts will make their own election calls, and the results will be announced live on air…

….They plan to turn “The Projection” into a daily show in early 2027.

Pay special attention to that last line! “The Projection” on Election Night is only the start of our plans!

I see in the comments some of you are unhappy with Kalshi sponsoring some of my videos.

I wanted to share my thinking on it. So here’s a question I got on sponsorships on my Substack.

I hope my answer sheds some light!

Q: I’d really like to see you drop Kalshi. I think the gambling sites are a stain on journalism and our country in general, especially when they’re run by the fascists we should all be opposing.

A: Happy to share my thinking.

In order to do this work as an independent — meaning not tied to a legacy media organization — journalist, you need either a MASSIVE base of paid subscribers or a combination of paid subscribers and sponsors.

While I have a good number of paid subscribers, that income alone isn’t enough to sustain what I am trying to do. That means I need to supplement the income I make from paid subscribers with sponsorships.

I am sponsored by Polymarket and Kalshi — among others — right now. Why? Because I think prediction markets are another data set that someone in the analyst space like me needs to be paying attention to. There are real dollars moving through these markets and they represent a sort of real-time reaction to political events — in a way that polling doesn’t.

I don’t participate in these markets. I have invested zero dollars in them — whether in political markets or any others. And I won’t going forward.

But, I DO use them as a part of my analysis. And I would (and did) do so before they sponsored me. I will continue to pay attention to them if and when these prediction markets stop sponsoring me.

My job — at least as I envision it — is to use all available data to bring the best analysis to my readers. Sticking my head in the sand about prediction markets — or any other emerging dataset that I believe can provide genuine insight — is not a solution.

One other thing: I think we need to be very careful throwing the term “fascist” around. If you label everything you don’t like as “fascist,” the word starts to lose its meaning.

I understand this answer won’t satisfy everyone. That’s ok! But know that I am doing everything I can to do this work as transparently and sustainably as I possibly can.
