My latest video fits perfectly with our Shop Less, Use More challenge. It is now up on the channel.
I’m making homemade beef and chicken gravy mixes using simple pantry ingredients, instead of buying individual packets. They’re quick to prepare, easy to store and ready whenever you need them.
This challenge isn’t only about using what we already have. It’s also about finding small, practical ways to make our grocery money stretch further. One little saving might not seem like much, but those small changes really do add up over time.
I’ll pop the video link below if you would like to see how I make them and how the costs compare.
What is one packet mix or pantry staple you would like to learn how to make at home?

How did everyone get on with the first day of our Shop Less, Use More Challenge?
Did you manage to pick five ingredients from your fridge, freezer or pantry?
Today’s little task is to decide how you’ll use at least one of them. It might become tonight’s dinner, tomorrow’s lunch or even a bit of baking.
With me being away for dinners, I am focussing my five on fresh veggies this week. I don't want any of them to go bad.
What’s your plan for one of your five ingredients?

Here’s a simple weekly tracker for anyone joining our Shop Less, Use More challenge.
Screenshot it and write on it using your phone’s markup tool, or simply copy the headings into a notebook. You don’t have to track everything perfectly, this is just an easy way to remember your five things and celebrate what you achieve this week.
Save it now and use it in whatever way works for you.

Sometimes life changes our plans.
I’m spending today at the hospital supporting a family member, so my first Monday Pick Five will look a little different. I made myself some soup and a salad to bring with me, and I’ll be cooking a few dinners to leave at home for my husband.
When I’m home, I’ll choose five ingredients from the fridge or freezer, probably vegetables and make sure they’re used in those dinners. I’ll write them down so I have a simple plan to follow.
That’s the lovely thing about our Shop Less, Use More challenge: it can fit around real life. You don’t have to join for all 11 weeks or have a big savings goal. You can simply choose five things to use this week and start there.
What are you planning to make with your five?

Tomorrow we begin our Shop Less, Use More challenge.
Over the next 11 weeks, we’re going to shop a little less, make better use of the food we already have and see how much money we can save together before the end of November.
I’ve had a very busy and unexpected few days away and may still be away from home coming and going. However, I’m still going to take part as best I can.
Real life doesn’t always follow our carefully made plan and perhaps that makes this challenge even more worthwhile. It isn’t about doing everything perfectly. It’s about making small, thoughtful changes wherever we can.
We officially begin tomorrow. I’m really looking forward to seeing what we can achieve together.

Shop Less, Use More begins on Monday, so it’s time to take an honest look at what we already have.
Which area of your kitchen needs the most attention?
Mine is definitely the freezer. It is full of useful food, but now I need to turn it into meals and make room before the next preserving season begins.
Vote below, then tell me in the comments what you most need to use.
If you haven’t seen the announcement video yet, I’ll leave the link below in the comments.

Surprise extra video this week.
My new Shop Less, Use More video is now live!
From Monday 14 September until the end of November, I’m giving myself just $500 NZD for groceries. My pantry, freezers and preserving cupboard are well stocked, so it’s time to shop less, use more of what we already have and hopefully save a substantial amount before Christmas.
I would love you to join me by choosing a budget, timeframe and set of rules that suit your own household. We’ll share our progress, meals, grocery spending and savings along the way.
Watch the video to hear how it will all work, then leave a comment telling me whether you’re joining us and what your personal goal will be.

My latest video is now live :-)
I’m sharing how I freeze potatoes so they’re ready to turn into delicious, crispy roast potatoes in just 25 minutes. It’s a brilliant way to save time, make the most of potatoes while they’re affordable, and have an easy side dish waiting in the freezer.
