Hey, I'm Alex! I help grown-up nerds get into Warhammer, LOTR, D&D, Star Wars, and board games - without the overwhelm, the gatekeeping, or needing to spend 100 hours on a wiki first. If you've always loved these worlds but never quite felt like you belonged in them, you're in exactly the right place. New videos every week!

Gabriel Seth and the Flesh Tearers have some brilliant Warhammer 40K lore.

From his connection to Sanguinius and Nassir Amit to his clashes with Dante, Astorath and the Space Wolves.

Who's your favourite Chapter Master in 40K?

WAIT...WHAT? WEDNESDAY.

Did anyone else completely miss the dying soldier in Ocarina of Time?

I've been revisiting some of the more obscure bits of lore from the original N64 game, and I reckon there's a fair bit here that most of us walked straight past.

From the Lost Woods to Kakariko Village, Nintendo hid some genuinely brilliant little stories in places you could easily miss.

I've put together 8 of my favourites, with the original SOURCES (because you keep moaning at me for saying receipts 😂) included.

Have a look through the pictures.

I'd love to know which ones you already knew, and whether there's anything I've missed.

Might have to do a Part 2 if you've got some good ones.

Happy Halloween! 🎃

Tolkien wrote some properly horrible creatures, so I thought Halloween was a good excuse to share a few of the lesser-known ones.

I've tried to find monsters you might not have heard of before, going beyond The Lord of the Rings and into The Silmarillion, The Book of Lost Tales and some of Tolkien's other writings.

I've included the book references on each slide if you fancy looking them up yourself.

I've also credited all the artists whose work I've used. Please do check out their work and support real artists!

Which of these creatures was new to you?

From aircraft that couldn't get off the ground to Concorde flying at twice the speed of sound.

I visited Aerospace Bristol and had a proper look through over 90 years of British aviation history.

I've spent the last few weeks researching some of Tolkien's strangest and most terrifying creatures for a two-part Halloween special on YouTube.

From giant spiders and werewolves to vampires, Sauron's rather questionable beginnings as a cat and a queen who used her cats as spies.

I've also looked into the folklore that influenced Tolkien's writing, his own letters and what he actually said about these creatures.

There's even a little story about how I first got into Tolkien when I was ten, although looking back I'm not entirely sure it was appropriate bedtime reading.

The first episode will be live tomorrow on my YouTube channel!

24 October is a pretty important date for THE LORD OF THE RINGS!

There's a brilliant little detail in Peter Jackson's films that you might not know about.

Because there's much more to this date in Tolkien's books.

Frodo wakes in Rivendell, reunites with Bilbo, and Boromir arrives that very evening, just hours before the Council of Elrond.

And if we read more into Tolkien's legendarium, there's even a connection to Tuor and the hidden city of Gondolin.

I've included the book references throughout this post for anyone who fancies having a read too!

GTA 6 but make it Orctober.

This is my entry for ‪@CrypticCabin‬ Orctober painting challenge.

You can only use the three paints provided, along with black and white, so I decided to attempt something inspired by GTA 6 and Vice City.

Wait...What? Wednesday.

Most Tolkien fans have never heard of the Wizard King.

This was the Witch-King of Angmar's name in Tolkien's early drafts. In one version Gandalf says he has no power to stand against him.

You'll see facts from Tolkien’s letters, Unfinished Tales and The History of Middle-earth for the Lord of the Nazgûl. In one early draft Sam kills him at Mount Doom!

Every slide shows the book or letter the fact comes from, so you can check it yourself.

NO AI ART. SUPPORT ARTISTS. Each artist is credited.

Wait...what? Wednesday.

I've had a look through Tolkien's letters, The Lord of the Rings and some Tolkien history to find 10 (hopefully 🤞) lesser-known facts about Samwise Gamgee.

I've included the original sources on each slide, so you can have a look too if you'd like to.

Tolkien's world has inspired generations of incredibly talented artists, and I believe it is important to not only recognise but also support their work. Each artist is credited.
