Learning the difference between Front Post Double Crochet (FPDC) and Back Post Double Crochet (BPDC) is the key to mastering raised crochet stitches, ribbing, and textured crochet patterns.
FPDC creates a raised stitch on the front of your work, while BPDC pushes the stitch forward on the opposite side. Master both, and you can create gorgeous crochet ribbing, basketweave textures, cables, and so much more!

We will be crocheting this beautiful Vines & Thorns shawl using any yarn of your choice! This project is lightweight with a sleek triangular flowing shape and intricate leaves border along the edge. The main body is relatively simple, using double crochet (dc) stitches while the detailed edging adds a little something extra for crocheters who enjoy projects with a more decorative finish.
Iβd like this project to be accessible for everyone so feel free to use any brand of yarn that you have as long as it falls in the same category as follows:
- Category #3 (Light) weight yarn approximately 1000m (1094 yds) or longer if desired. I will be using Coboo yarn by Lion Brand in the color Russet. Itβs a blend of cotton and rayon from bamboo.
- Size 6 (4.0mm) crochet hook
- A pair of scissors
- Yarn needle
Finished Size: Can be adjusted to your preference, make it as wide as you need it to be
Terminology: The pattern is in US terms and will be made free for you to download before the CAL starts.
Skill level: Advanced beginner to Intermediate +
We also have a Facebook group called "WhatAboutYarn Community" for you to post your photos and progress:
