Tomorrow evening (Friday, August 28 7:30pm CST) I’ll be going live to do a cold reaction to this video from ‪@TheTransfiguredLife‬‬ and ‪@TruthUnites‬‬ in the members only section of the channel. A number of you have asked, so let’s do it!
I’m giving away a nice, clothbound hardcopy of Johann Heinrich Heidegger’s The Concise Marrow of Theology to one new Canon & Creed member.
And I chose this book because it really is true to its name: concise. You get the kind of careful, scholastic-level precision you expect from the Reformed orthodox, but in a format that’s incredibly organized, accessible, and constantly rooted in Scripture.
It’s the kind of book you can open to a doctrine, quickly see the distinctions that matter, and follow the argument straight back to the biblical text without wading through hundreds of pages to get there. I cite this thing all the time on the show, and now one of you can have a copy too.
Anyone who joins the Inner Circle over the next couple of weeks will automatically be entered to win.
If you’ve been thinking about joining us, now’s a pretty good time. 👀
I caught an unexpected case of the belly laughs in this weeks live show when I recounted a line from William Whitaker in his Disputation on Holy Scripture. And I said I would post it on X so I want to remain faithful to my promise.
But I was was mistaken. I said he was engaging Robert Bellarmine, but it was Thomas Stapleton he said was stupid:
"But God (says [Stapleton]) teaches us through the church, and by no other medium: therefore there is no more certain authority than that of the church.
I answer: His own words prove that God’s authority is more certain. For the authority of him who teaches is greater than that of him through whom one is taught. God teaches us through the church: therefore the authority of God is greater than that of the church. I am surprised that Stapleton should have been so stupid as not to see that, if it be God who teaches through the church, the authority of God must be greater than that of the church. He confesses that we are taught by God through the church: therefore, since God is the prime and highest teacher, it is evident that his authority and trustworthiness is the chief."—William Whitaker; Disputation on Holy Scripture (Oxford Press), pg. 285-6
Not because nothing’s happening…but because something is.
If you've been following along from the beginning I've said that if any big changes take place with me and this channel, I'd step away to work through those.
So for a little bit… I’m stepping back.
You'll hear from me in a couple weeks. Big things happening!
Many have asked when the third and final part of the Rock & Sand rebuttal will be up. Please, be patient. I understand some people really love videos like that, but one must understand the amount of time it takes to bring you 1-1.5 hours of rebuttal like that.
Between parts 1 and 2, I have already put in over 115 hours (not including everything so far for part 3). The amount of historical research/reading that is required, footnote verification of Trenham's sources, planning, writing, recording, editing, etc. is a lot to make sure it's done right.
It's coming.
It's just taking longer than anticipated because, like with these types of things, you come across stuff you didn't previously know, which can send you down new paths of research. Which is exactly what happened in this case and I'm in the thick of it.
But I promise you it will be worth it. It will be quite long. Buckle up!
