John Trumbull (1756-1843) was an American artist who, despite losing the use of an eye in a childhood accident, served in the War of Independence as aide-de-camp to General Washington, and later became known as ‘The Painter of the Revolution’.

It’s 11 years since Epic History launched its first video ‘The Battle of Waterloo’!
Featuring animated maps, little coloured blocks, atmospheric music and Charles Nove on narration, this video set the template for all our future work - and, I think it’s fair to say, showed many other creators what could be done with a passion for history, some maps and some editing know-how.
This video is about to be superseded by the long-awaited Waterloo remake - a vastly more detailed and sophisticated video, drawing on all our experience of the last 11 years. We’re sure you’ll love it, but feel free to give the original video one last watch before it fades into obsolescence!

#OnThisDay 1852, Arthur Wellesley, 1st Duke of Wellington, died following a stroke aged 83 at Walmer Castle in Kent.
Born in Dublin, Wellesley became one of Britain’s greatest generals, defeating Napoleon’s forces in the Peninsular War and helping to deal a final blow to the French Emperor at Waterloo.
While Napoleon dismissed Wellington as a “sepoy general” in public, many sources suggest he held some regard for Wellington’s tactics and ruthlessness.
