Don’t mind me, I’m just promoting my website dedicated to archiving samples from and information about U.S. teletext services. The site has grown so much since I first published it; tomorrow will make exactly 1 month since the site was published. In just the span of a month, we have decoded 63 samples from 6 teletext services. While I built the entire site and am the one who primarily maintains it, much of the information on the site, and many of the teletext samples, were contributed by the various contributors to the site. They know who they are, so thank you all for your assistance in making the site better. It’s also not just teletext, either. The site also hosts samples from TEXT services such as ABC PLUS and KET’s AGTEXT.

Greetings,

A pretty massive revelation in the tape archiving community happened this past weekend. For the first time ever, we now have software that can decode U.S. teletext services from videotapes transferred via the FM RF method (see VHS-Decode). Some of these services include Electra/Keyfax (part of TBS’s VBI), CBS’s ExtraVision, and NBC’s NBC Teletext. Clean examples of pages from these services have never been seen before. The only examples we’ve had for the last few decades are newspaper clippings and a couple low-quality images.

This is quite a milestone as there has been software to decode European teletext (see VHS-Teletext) for the last few years. Now, we have a great chance to preserve these services the way they were originally seen back in the 1980s and early 1990s by those with the applicable decoder (WST or NABTS) depending on the service.

I’ve been a practicing web developer (not my occupation) for 4 years, so the site only took a couple days to build, though I’m still making changes whenever I can. I hope you give it a look and — while you’re at it — spread the word.

Greetings.

As you may (or may not) know, I have been uploading film transfers to Mega for the last year. It gets the job done. However, I've come to realize that Mega has a download limit for those who do not use an account on the site. I'm trying to consider alternatives, but my options are very limited. I tried initially uploading them to Internet Archive, but they got taken down very quickly.

With that, I want to know something. How many people are or aren't able to download the transfers on Mega?

As you may (or may not) have noticed, I've been uploading more film transfers recently, something I'm very happy about. It feels great to be more involved with the film hobby as of recent. I've got more uploads coming soon and will work on scanning a few more prints this week. For the complete film transfer (sans leader) of any program, please refer to the video description for a link to the transfer on Mega -- this will only apply to the 4K film transfer uploads. If there is no link, the transfer is not on Mega yet, but should be soon.

Greetings. Hope things are going well wherever you are.

The end of 2025, and start of 2026, has and will arrive, respectively. Overall, this has been a decent, but slow year for 16mm prints, but a great year for Betacam additions. First, I added only 23 16mm prints to the collection this year (which, admittedly, is more than I added in 2023 and 2024). Here are the last few 16mm prints I added in 2025:


- Bewitched (S08 E24 - “A Good Turn Never Goes Unpunished”) [LPP]

- Family Affair (S02 E07 - “Fat, Fat, the Water Rat”) [LPP, also my first print of the series]

- Family Affair (S01 E15 - “Hard Hat Jody”) [LPP]

- 14 episodes of “Perry Mason”

As for Betacam, this has been a great year. In total, I’ve added 64 tapes this year. With the purchase of 11 (12 total, but 1 was wiped) Betacam SP tapes with episodes of “The Simpsons,” I got my first Betacam tapes with content sourced from a C-band syndication satellite feed. In November, after adding 8 Betacam SP tapes with episodes of “Star Trek: Voyager,” I had even more content from C-band syndication feeds. The ultimate goal is some PBS satellite feeds on Betacam (and I’ll add Buena Vista satellite feeds as well). Here’s hoping I find some of that content and similar content in 2026.

I’m making a change to the Mega link that contains the film transfers. Currently, only streaming versions of the film transfers are available; these have a CBR (constant bit rate) of 10 Mbps. Starting today, I’m going to make the transfers with a CBR of 50 Mbps available for download. Not all transfers have been exported with this bit rate just yet, so please give me some time to export them all. Exporting the 50 Mbps files will take quite a bit of time. The file sizes will be much larger than the streaming versions. The 50 Mbps transfers will be in their own folder to separate them from the 10 Mbps streaming transfers. I will announce here when the 50 Mbps files are available for all currently uploaded transfers.

Just as I expected, IA took down the recent transfers. As I stated before, I backed up transfers to Mega in case something like this were to happen. The transfers without slates will go up on Mega tomorrow — this will be the only place transfers will be available.
