I absolutely LOVE this interview with Aja Yada! ❤️👏🏽 Especially as someone who considers herself one of the ones who GOT AWAY. 🙏🏽💜

One thing about domestic violence is that people will always have something to say. They’ll judge you, question you, and ask, “Why did you stay so long?” But what people fail to understand is that they are NOT the ones living in your shoes. There are so many reasons why women stay in abusive relationships, and trust me when I tell you, it is NEVER as simple as people make it seem.

Sometimes it’s fear, manipulation, financial struggles, children, emotional attachment, or the hope that the person you love will change. Sometimes, you’re trying to figure out how to leave safely. People see the outside, but they don’t always understand what’s happening behind closed doors.

Instead of asking a survivor why she stayed, maybe we should be asking why the abuse happened in the first place and how we can support women who are trying to find their way out.

As someone who understands the importance of getting away, I know that walking away can take so much courage. Let’s stop judging survivors and start listening to their stories. You never know what someone had to endure just to make it out alive. 💜🙏🏽

🧠✨ One thing I absolutely LOVE about myself is my critical thinking and problem-solving skills! I don’t just look at a situation for what it appears to be on the surface. I analyze, observe, connect the dots, ask questions, and think things through. I love being able to look at a situation from different angles and come up with solutions.

I’m the type of person who wants to understand the WHY behind things, not just accept what I’m told. The way my mind works is something I genuinely appreciate about myself. 💯
