Sunday, Oct 11 · The Black Cat

So what’s a Welcome-Wagon? It’s a care package for someone coming out, packed with affirmation, resources, handwritten SupportCards from community members who’ve been there, and lots of love. They include a year-long access to a monthly support group thru @openspacetherapycollective 💜

We’re making 100 of them in one afternoon, and that takes a lot of hands. Give us a shift and help send someone a box that says they’re not alone.

🙌 Shift 1: 1–3 PM (orientation 12 PM)
🙌 Shift 2: 3–5 PM (orientation 2 PM)
🧹 Clean-up crew: 4–6 PM (orientation 3 PM)

We need help with setup, the assembly line, the SupportCard station, greeters, partner tables and breakdown. No experience needed, just good energy ✨

@projectangelfood CEO @richardayoub (he/him) joins The BabyGay™ Podcast to talk coming out, community, and how volunteering can change your life. The Emmy Award-winning TV producer turned nonprofit leader now runs an org born out of the 1989 AIDS crisis that delivers 1.5M+ free, medically tailored meals a year to critically ill Angelenos.

Richard shares his coming out story, growing up half-Lebanese, half-Mexican, and Catholic in El Paso. His path wound through Tucson, Orlando, and finally Los Angeles, where at 30 years old he found himself at his first Pride parade and finally felt like he belonged.

We talk about how showing up for people you’ll never meet can transform both sides, rooting for the underdog, and how Richard took a nonprofit that was $1M underwater and turned it into a $20M+ lifeline for the LGBTQ+ community and beyond.
