I genuinely never thought I’d see myself playing golf.
For years, golf existed in this very specific box in my mind: retired men, business meetings and country clubs.
And funnily enough, investing used to live in a similar box.
Growing up, I never saw myself as an investor.
I thought investing was for people with huge amounts of money. People from certain families. Mostly wealthy men who already understood how the world of money worked.
It’s interesting how many invisible ideas we carry about who certain things are “for.”
And then, without even realizing it, we build our identity around them.
“I’m not an investor.”
“I’m not good with money.”
“That world isn’t for people like me.”
“I’m not the kind of woman who does that.”
But so much can change when you start questioning those assumptions.
When I allowed myself to step into the identity of an investor, it completely changed my life.
It changed how I saw myself in relation to money.
It changed what I believed I was capable of building.
It changed how I managed my money and how intentionally I could use it to design the life I actually wanted.
And eventually, it opened up an entirely new part of my business: teaching other women how to do the same.
And strangely enough, golf has reminded me of that lesson all over again.
It’s another world that has traditionally been dominated by men and surrounded by its own stereotypes.
Yet within just a few weeks, it has opened up a completely new passion for me, introduced me to an incredible network of women and created some of the most interesting connections and conversations.
All because I was willing to question an old idea I had about who I was.
A quote I saw this week summed it up perfectly:
“It’s not who you think you are. It’s who you think you’re not that holds you back the most.”
So maybe the question isn’t just, “Who do I want to become?”
Maybe it’s:
Who have I already decided I’m not?
An investor?
A wealthy woman?
Someone who understands money?
Someone who gets to build real financial freedom?
