I’m Harmony — a survivor, author, trauma-informed educator, and founder of Treasures, a nonprofit helping women heal from sexual exploitation and rebuild their lives.

I’ve spent over 25 years on the frontlines of anti-trafficking and helped pioneer outreach to women in the sex industry.

On this channel, I share practical tools for healing, nervous system regulation, and honest conversations about boundaries, healthy relationships, and reclaiming your voice after harm.

This work is rooted in lived experience and decades in the field. I also hold a Master’s in Social Work, and my story has been featured in Glamour, NPR, and BuzzFeed, as well as in my memoir Scars and Stilettos. ✨

HARMONY DUST

Maybe it’s not your personality… Maybe it’s what you learned to survive.

Hypervigilance. People-pleasing. Overexplaining. Feeling responsible for everyone. Struggling to say no.

You have been so brilliant at adapting. But maybe it’s time to recognize you have more choices now. And some of the things that kept you safe before may not be serving you anymore.

If you’re ready to move out of survival mode into safety…

I was delighted to find a use for some of the photos I’ve taken over the years. attuning to nature is one of my favorite ways to ground myself. In case you’re curious, here is a little more info on them.

HARMONY DUST

Sometimes the habits we judge ourselves for may be survival strategies we learned because we didn’t always feel safe.

as we begin to understand ourselves, better we can stop asking, “What’s wrong with me?” and start compassionately asking, “What is my nervous system trying to protect me from?”

curious, how many of these resonated with you?

Check out my LI N K in B I O for my free nervous system reset guide to help you move out of survival mode and back toward safety.

I was delighted to be able to share some of my favorite photos of skies and trees. Attuning to is one of my favorite ways to regulate my nervous system. In case you’re curious, here is a little more about each photo.

To counteract the perfectionist in me, I left all of the mistakes I found in this post after I finished creating it

HARMONY DUST

PTSD and Complex PTSD (CPTSD) can look similar—but they aren’t exactly the same.

Both can leave your nervous system responding as though danger is still present, even when you’re safe. But complex PTSD is often connected to prolonged or repeated trauma and can impact not only how you respond to stress, but how you see yourself, navigate relationships, regulate emotions, and experience safety.

Things like people-pleasing, shutting down, struggling to know what you want, difficulty trusting, or carrying a deep sense of shame can sometimes make a lot more sense when we understand them through the lens of trauma.

These are adaptations your mind and body developed to help you survive.

And what was learned in survival can change in safety. 🤍

If this helped put words to something you’ve felt, save it or send it to someone who might need it.

HARMONY DUST

8 years ago, I received congressional recognition for the work we were doing through @treasuresorganization serving survivors.

They flew a flag over Capitol Hill in my honor. I didn’t even know that was a thing.

The version of me in the last photo — the one who didn’t think she would live to see her 21st birthday — never could’ve imagined she would not only heal, but thrive. She would not only escape, but find freedom.

I think she’d be shocked. And maybe even proud. ♥️

An added layer is that this honor was given to me on a really difficult grief anniversary. May 19th will forever be seared into my heart as one of the most heartbreaking days I’ve lived through. That’s actually why I’m posting this a day early… and why this moment has always felt complicated to celebrate.

Life is like that sometimes, right? The highest highs and the lowest lows somehow existing side by side. Sometimes even crashing into each other.
