πŸ’‘ True fact about Test Automation

Test automation is NOT just:

β€œWrite scripts β†’ Run tests β†’ Get PASS/FAIL.”

ISTQB's Test Automation Engineer syllabus describes automation as involving much more, including:

β€’ Testware
β€’ Test cases
β€’ Test environments
β€’ Test execution
β€’ Comparing actual vs expected results

That's why good automation requires testing knowledge + programming + automation skills.

Automation is a testing discipline β€” not just scripting.

🀯 Interesting QA fact: A test can PASS even when the feature is broken.

How?

Imagine your automated test checks that a button is visible and clickable.

The test passes. βœ…

But what if clicking the button doesn't actually complete the expected action?

The automation may still pass if your test only verifies the clickβ€”not the final result.

That's why:

Automation executes the steps you tell it to execute.
It doesn't automatically know what you forgot to verify.

A good test is not just about actions.

It's also about validating the right outcome.

πŸ‘‡ Have you ever seen an automated test pass while the application was actually broken?

🚨 Misconception: Selenium is outdated because Playwright has modern browser features.

Not quite.

Selenium is also moving forward with WebDriver BiDi β€” a W3C standard that enables bidirectional communication between the browser and automation tool.

With BiDi, Selenium can work with things like:

🌐 Network events
πŸ“ Console logs
⚑ Browser events
πŸ”„ Real-time communication through WebSockets

And Selenium is actively expanding its BiDi implementation.

In fact, Selenium 4.48 was released on August 27, 2026, with further BiDi improvements.

So the better question isn't:

"Is Selenium dead?"

It's:

"Which automation tool fits my project and what I need to test?"

Playwright and Selenium are both evolving.

πŸ“Š What skills are becoming more important in IT?

I was looking at LinkedIn's Skills on the Rise 2026 report for IT professionals.

One thing that stood out to me:

The fastest-growing skills are not limited to just one area.

LinkedIn highlights areas such as:

πŸ” Cybersecurity
πŸ€– AI development
πŸ’¬ Prompt engineering
🧠 Large Language Models

The World Economic Forum also lists AI and big data, networks and cybersecurity, and technological literacy among the fastest-growing skills expected over the coming years.

My takeaway for QA and software professionals:

You probably don't need to suddenly learn everything.

But building only one skill may become limiting.

For example, a QA engineer could build on testing knowledge by adding:

β†’ Automation
β†’ API testing
β†’ Programming
β†’ CI/CD
β†’ Understanding how to use AI in the testing workflow

The important question is not:

"Which tool should I learn because it is trending?"

It is:

"What skill can I add to what I already know?"
