Advancing Solutions for Complex Surgery | IBC Oxford 2026
Prof. Faisal Dar Hepatobiliary/Pancreatic & Liver Transplant Surgeon at PKLI & RC, delivered a lecture at the University of Oxford during the 7th International Bariatric Club (IBC) Meeting 2026.
Meetings like IBC are about more than presenting a difficult operation. They bring surgeons from around the world together to share experience, challenge conventional thinking and find better solutions for our patients.
Speaking in the session "Biliary Controversies in the Big League", Prof. Dar discussed the management of a rare but serious complication of gallbladder surgery - injury to the bile duct, the channel that carries bile from the liver to the intestine.
Such injuries are already challenging to repair. When they occur in patients who have previously undergone gastric bypass surgery for obesity, the altered anatomy makes reconstruction even more complex.
The lecture highlighted innovative surgical strategies to rebuild the altered anatomy, restore the normal flow of bile, and achieve the best possible outcome for patients.
The session provided an excellent platform for leading surgeons from around the world to exchange experience, discuss challenging cases and explore new approaches to complex surgical problems.
When anatomy changes, surgery must adapt - turning complex challenges into opportunities for innovation and better patient care.
