Dad of 3 adapting to life with MND.

Adapt With James

Thank you. ❤️

I just wanted to say a massive thank you to everyone for the incredible support and positivity following my latest and final long-form YouTube video. I’ll tag the video below for anyone who hasn’t seen it yet.

As I mentioned in the video, I’m absolutely not disappearing.

I’ll still be creating YouTube Shorts, Instagram Reels, TikToks and Facebook videos, just as I have been doing for the last four-ish years.

Long-form YouTube videos have genuinely been a passion of mine. I’ve loved sitting down, talking, sharing what’s going on in my life and creating something a little longer.

But Motor Neurone Disease has made that process harder and harder.

And it’s not just the process of creating and uploading the longer videos that has become demanding. My physical limitations are becoming increasingly difficult too.

For example, speaking for longer than a few minutes can now be incredibly tiring. The muscles in my neck and throat are becoming weaker, which is making it much more difficult to support my own neck while I’m talking. What might have once been a relatively simple 20 or 30 minute conversation can now take a significant amount of physical energy.

At the moment, my wife has to set the camera up, press record, help me get the footage onto a laptop, and then help with the process of uploading it. Even when there’s little or no editing to do, there’s still the title, description, tags, uploading and all the little things that go with putting a YouTube video together.

Yes, I could just upload a video and leave all of that out. But when I can record a short video on YouTube, a Reel on Instagram and Facebook, or a TikTok and get the same message out there with a fraction of the energy and assistance, it makes much more sense for me.

My energy is becoming increasingly precious, and I want to spend more of it on the things that really matter to me, especially spending time with my family.

I reached a point where making a long-form video was becoming more of a chore than something I genuinely enjoyed.

And honestly?

Since making the decision to stop doing them, it feels like a weight has been lifted from my shoulders.

I know so many of you have suggested different ways I could find a workaround and keep the long-form videos going, and I genuinely appreciate every single suggestion. It means a lot that you care enough to try and help me find a way.

But sometimes, the best decision is simply to stop forcing something that no longer works for you.

I want to keep creating because I enjoy it, not because I feel like I have to make a long video just because I always have.

One thing I think could work really well going forward is doing more live streams here on YouTube.

It feels like a much easier option for me because I can simply go live, talk for as long or as little as I physically can, and then once I finish, the video is automatically there for people to watch afterwards.

It could give me a way to update everyone, talk about specific subjects, answer questions, or simply sit and have a bit of a chat and engage with you all without the whole process of filming, editing and uploading a long-form video afterwards.

I can do it on my terms and, importantly, listen to my body and stop when I need to.

So, there will still be plenty of James, MND, family life, ridiculousness, honesty and everything in between coming your way. 😂

Thank you for being here.

Thank you for understanding.

And thank you for your continued support, especially to everyone who supports the channel as a member. ❤️

I’ll see you on the next Short.

And hopefully, very soon, on a live stream.

Much love,

James ❤️

Say hello to MILES. ♿️

Making Independence Look Extremely Sexy. 😂

I never wanted this day to come. I never wanted to need a wheelchair, but after a year of far too many falls, injuries and increasingly close encounters with the floor, it’s time to admit that my body is making some decisions for me.

With the weakness in my arms, neck and core, I’m no longer able to stop myself properly when I fall. My right leg is also becoming increasingly troublesome. I’m tripping more, struggling to lift my foot high enough and generally making life unnecessarily difficult for myself. 😂

So, rather than continuing to test the structural integrity of my head against the floor, I’ve decided to embrace a bit of help.

Welcome to the family, Miles. ❤️♿️

And you’ll be seeing a LOT more of Miles making an appearance on the channel over the coming videos, as I figure out how to navigate this next chapter, hopefully with fewer encounters with the floor! 😂

Here’s to a little more independence, a lot less falling, and hopefully making this wheelchair look ridiculously cool along the way. 😎

A little Bali update 🌴❤️

My head is healing well, and thankfully my shoulder is still painful but getting a little better each day.

Other than that, I’m absolutely loving every minute of being here in Bali and making the most of every experience with my family. ❤️

I’ll continue to upload short videos whenever I can, but unfortunately, my Meta Ray-Ban glasses took the brunt of my recent fall, so I’m not able to take pictures or record as much as I probably would have done.

Thanks, MND! 🙄😂

But don’t worry… the longer videos will return when I’m back home from Bali. Until then, I’ll keep sharing what I can and enjoying every minute of this incredible adventure. 🌴☀️❤️

After a recent fall while away in Bali, it has hindered me from being able to record any long videos. I will carry on with short video updates as I go, but the next long video will be when I get back to the UK. Until then, I’m going to relax and spend time with my family and enjoy this epic holiday in Bali ✌️

🎈 5,000 SUBSCRIBERS?! 🤯🥳

So… apparently 5,000 of you have watched me wobble, adapt, laugh, overshare, and occasionally lose an argument with everyday objects… and thought, “Yep, I’ll subscribe to this bloke.” 😂

When I started sharing my life with Motor Neurone Disease, I genuinely never imagined this. I never set out to build a community like this. I simply wanted to show the reality of living with MND, raise awareness, and prove that even when life changes, there’s still plenty to smile and laugh about.

Now there are 5,000 of you following the journey, and that honestly blows my mind.

Thank you for every view, every comment, every like, every share, and every message. Whether you’ve been here since day one or you’ve only just found the channel, you’ve become part of something really special.

Right… who’s volunteering to inflate the balloons when we hit 10,000? Because I definitely won’t be! 🎈😂

From the bottom of my heart, thank you for being here. 🫶

Today’s trip to the beach came with an unexpected stunt performance… unfortunately by me 😂🌊

The inevitable happened again and I managed to have a “fall up” the stairs to the beach hut. Didn’t even know that was possible until today. After coming out of the sea my weaker leg had gone stiff, clipped the step, and suddenly I was launching myself upwards like a malfunctioning salmon 🫠

I landed straight on my arm and introduced my cheekbone to the edge of the step a little harder than planned. Safe to say my dignity took the biggest hit.

In all seriousness though, moments like this can be frustrating and, if I’m honest, a little scary too. MND has a way of reminding me very quickly that something as simple as a few steps can turn into chaos in seconds.

Massive thank you to the kind passers-by who rushed over to help me up and offered a first aid kit. And of course to my amazing wife and her friend for looking after me, keeping me calm, and somehow managing to make me laugh about it afterwards ❤️

I’m sore, slightly bruised, ego definitely damaged… but we go again tomorrow 👊

Thank you to everyone who joined the live yesterday. I really appreciate every single one of you jumping on, supporting, and asking questions. The response was genuinely positive and encouraging, and it’s given me the push to do more lives in the future.

I’ll keep you posted on when the next one will be. Until then, thank you for continuing to like, comment, subscribe, and support both my past and future videos. It really means a lot.

Now to put my feet up 🫶

Two things happened this week that are definitely worth celebrating 🎉

I hit 12,000 followers on Instagram and, unlucky for some, 13,000 followers on TikTok 😅 When you’ve got MND, the whole “13 is unlucky” thing doesn’t really hit the same!

Thank you to everyone who follows me over there and continues to support me here on YouTube too. It genuinely means a lot.
Let’s keep banging that drum and raising awareness.

Just a reminder as well I’m planning on going live tonight at 7:30pm GMT for around 45 minutes for a catch-up chat and to answer any questions you may have.

Hopefully I’ll see some of you tonight.

Have a lovely day and take care ❤️

PS thanks to AI generating these pictures. I wish I could still put my hands in the air like this.
