Weird Stuff Happens

Story-led documentaries from the uncertain edges of history, folklore, science and culture.

Weird Stuff Happens (W.S.H.) explores strange events, disappearances, urban legends, unexplained phenomena, unusual history, media mysteries and the stories that grow around them.

Each documentary starts with the story itself — what happened, where, when, who was involved and what the evidence actually shows — before following the larger questions into folklore, belief, history, science and culture.

W.S.H. is made for the curious sceptic: atmospheric without sensationalism, open to mystery without forcing an answer.

Some stories are strange because they remain unresolved. Others because of what people came to believe about them.

Weird Stuff Happens

🎃 W.S.H. HALLOWEEN BEGINS THIS SUNDAY.

Before trick-or-treating, pumpkins and Halloween parties, there were older stories.
Stories about nights when the dead returned.

Riders crossing the sky.
Graves that would not stay quiet.
And the uneasy belief that, at certain times of year, the boundary between this world and something else became dangerously thin.

From Samhain to Ghost Stories: Why Halloween Is Haunted

Part One of the W.S.H. Halloween special follows the story from Samhain and the legend of Nera through the Wild Hunt, medieval revenants, spectral folklore and the writers who helped shape the modern ghost story.

👻 Premieres this Sunday.

REALITY REPLACED: MK-ULTRA, MANSON, AND JONESTOWN

For centuries, people have feared that someone else might control the human mind.

From hypnotists and mystics to Cold War intelligence agencies, cult leaders, and secret government experiments, the search for influence has shaped some of the darkest chapters of modern history.

This episode explores the disturbing world of mind control—from the rise of MK-ULTRA and CIA behavioral experiments to Charles Manson, Jim Jones, Jonestown, and the psychology of belief. Along the way, we separate documented history from conspiracy, asking a deeper question:

Can reality itself be replaced?

**Featured in this episode:**

🧙 Rasputin — the mysterious mystic whose influence over the Russian royal family inspired fears of psychological domination.

🧠 Brainwashing — how the Korean War introduced America to the terrifying idea that beliefs could be rewritten.

🕵️ Project Bluebird & Project Artichoke — the CIA's earliest attempts to explore hypnosis, interrogation, and behavioral manipulation.

💉 MK-ULTRA — the infamous Cold War program that secretly experimented with LSD, hypnosis, sensory deprivation, and psychological conditioning.

🏨 Operation Midnight Climax — CIA safe houses where unsuspecting civilians were secretly dosed with LSD while agents observed from behind two-way mirrors.

⚡ Donald Ewen Cameron — the controversial psychiatrist whose "depatterning" experiments attempted to erase and rebuild the human personality.

🎯 The Programmed Assassin — why the assassinations of the 1960s sparked fears of hypnosis, mind control, and the real-life "Manchurian Candidate."

🌈 The Counterculture & LSD — how psychedelic experimentation escaped government laboratories and transformed an entire generation.

🔪 Charles Manson — the cult leader whose manipulation of vulnerable followers blurred the line between charisma, coercion, and psychological control.

☠️ Jonestown — how Jim Jones created a closed reality that ultimately ended in one of history's deadliest cult tragedies.
