Be the Light of Your Own Healing
A friend and fellow NDEr who I interviewed a long while ago—you might remember him, Daniel Giroux—recently wrote to me about humanity moving into a new cycle of love.
He described more love entering the world in 2027 through people who consciously choose it.
One sentence stayed with me:
“Success is not in the numbers, instead it’s in the actions.”
I appreciate the hope in that. Love needs people who listen, protect, and repair. This type of work can be humble, silent, and often not seen on social media or anywhere other than directly in front of you.
And those people working to repair situations also need care themselves.
What is one act of love you’ve witnessed that deserves more attention?
That is the kind of news that I want to hear.
I've witnessed counselors at the college where I work spending more time than they are paid for listening to students who are in crisis. I've seen professors do the same. I've seen students helping other students who are struggling.
I've witnessed and helped people rescuing animals from the side of the road, and I've witnessed others volunteering their time and expertise without posting about it.
This is my direct world.
You don't need a church to be holy and of service to this world. You can be of service through churches and organizations, but it isn't a requirement.
Lots of my friends have told me stories about being a good neighbor and having good neighbors. I've watched a neighbor's dog while he was out of town recently, and I know that people everywhere are doing small, kind, loving things for one another.
Here is a post from a website I follow called “Nice News” about the power of being a good neighbor.
My friend's words about more love being birthed in the world in 2027 also brought two poems by Wisława Szymborska to mind.
In the poem, “The Century’s Decline,” she looks at the distance between humanity’s expectations for 2000 and what actually happened. Fear, hunger, war, and disregard for vulnerable people were supposed to give way to something better.
Near the end, someone asks her, “How should we live?”
She had wanted to ask the same question.
I love the honesty of that exchange. We can have profound spiritual experiences and still face difficult questions about how to live here, together.
In “The End and the Beginning,” Szymborska turns to the work that follows destruction and war. Someone has to clear the debris, repair homes, and rebuild the places where life can happen again.
The work takes years and the cameras move on. Eventually, even the memory of what happened begins to fade.
Together, these poems make me cautious about declaring that a calendar change will bring a more loving humanity, and I know that isn't what my friend meant at all.
My fellow NDEr simply meant those of us who know better will start doing better—living our lives from a greater place of love and letting fear retire in the wings.
If we are able to make the conscious choice of love, we will be inspired along the way as we progress.
My near-death experience informs my understanding of love, and my daily life keeps asking me what I will do with that understanding. I give because I know life is short and giving matters, but sometimes I am exhausted.
Sometimes, I am tired of dealing with the egos of others and those who live from places of fear and scarcity. The people doing this work need protection and care themselves.
A loving community makes room for that, too.
I hope my friend is right that more of us will choose love. I see people making that choice already, often without recognition.
I want us to support them and share the responsibility.
“How should we live?” remains a question worth asking.
Our answers become visible in how we treat one another and in what we are willing to keep doing after the attention has moved elsewhere.

Can a spiritual awakening sometimes feed the ego? I've been thinking about this a lot lately. Having an NDE profoundly changed my life, but 30 years of integration has taught me that extraordinary experiences are more like glimpses into a new way of being. Awakening opens the door, but we still have to do the work.
What do you think? Can spiritual experiences sometimes make people feel more special rather than more connected?
Over the years, I've seen people from many walks of life, including spirituality, claim to be "one of only a few" with "special knowledge." To me, that feels comical. The age of the guru is long gone in my mind, and creating fear in others isn't a way to "wake" them up.
I don't think a top-down approach empowers people. I'd much rather see people encouraged to trust their own connection to Source, their own discernment, and their own capacity for joy and lightness of being.

What if a near-death experience was only the beginning?
In 2011, Joseph Banks lost consciousness after being overcome by fumes while working inside an airplane fuel tank. Later, he was unconscious for more than a day and experienced what he describes as a journey into Heaven.
But what happened afterward fascinated me just as much. Joseph began having out-of-body experiences and says he eventually learned to travel consciously to other places, times, and realms.
We talk about Heaven, OBEs, consciousness, spiritual evolution, and the mysterious voice that told him to “come back.”
My conversation with Joseph is up now. ✨

I'm sharing one final song before the Fourth of July. This isn't a poem about my personal trauma. It's about what I see as civilizational trauma from corrupted justice, patriarchal violence, internalized competition among women, religious hypocrisy, ecological grief, and the spiritual cost of ego.
Throughout history, music has given voice to the longing for a more just world. Music has a unique ability to open hearts in ways that debates often cannot.
This is also the last song I'll create with Suno AI. I wanted to hear this poem in another form before closing that creative chapter. I understand the environmental costs of AI, and my footprint has remained minimal throughout my life. I don't regret the experiement because joy, creativity, and expression is healing.
I've spent years believing in the possibility of a heaven we build here on earth. I still believe it's possible, but not without accountability, compassion, ecological responsibility, and a justice system worthy of its name.
As a Creative Writing professor, I've long been inspired by writers such as Audre Lorde, Adrienne Rich, June Jordan, Joy Harjo, and many Indigenous and ecofeminist voices. This poem is also in conversation with Langston Hughes' "Let America Be America Again" because the work of creating a more just society is never finished.
Whether this poem resonates with you or challenges you, thank you for listening with an open heart.
The Fourth of July, 2026
I enjoy a good performance, but not if it is performative.
I enjoy a good debate, but not without reliable facts and research.
I care about your feelings until you use dime-store tactics and weaponized threats to manipulate mine.
Some people love to forgive the worst of offences, especially to young women and children, all in the name of the almighty dollar, but I'm still waiting on the dark horse named Justice to run into town riderless and full of life's fire.
Justice keeps wearing the disguise of an old man who only gives breaks to other men. Justice keeps masquerading as the rapist knocking back beers at the bar after work and talking nonstop about himself and his “accomplishments.”
Justice secretly meets with the head of the police, keeping the whole force under lock and key, while every honest officer is reassigned to mysteries designed to stay mysteries.
I'm not talking about forgiveness and oneness until there is balance and harmony with nature.
When I was very young, I was bullied by little women, but now these women turn away in horror as I'm bullied by the men.
I must be getting stronger. I must be throwing out the princess crown for the crone witch queen crown.
Some women want to believe they'll be saved if they are “better than,” prettier, sexier, younger, more compliant, more domestic, but deep down they know that once their rights go, it only takes one unfortunate incident and they are for the streets, for the asylums, for the jails, and for the graveyards.
There is always a new body to be a placeholder. Always a new girl who plays the role of the evil stepmother of fairy tales, giving poisoned fruits to the other woman's offspring.
No community. No love for one another. Just fierce competition. A total despicable joke.
Those of us who woke up early kicked the patriarchy in the balls as soon as we could kick and speak.
We survived real monsters that kept eating power and eating money like tree leaves were money.
They ate the whole earth, drained the water, tainted the very air we breathe, and called us commie liberals for wanting clean rivers and oceans, pure air, regenerative food, and emergency medical care for all.
They want the kids they used like dolls to be eaten up by pain, destroyed by drugs of all varieties, and health systems that don’t reach the root causes.
They want rebellious ones' names X'd out and forgotten, but the rebellious ones are often the healers who know how to heal from the wounds of the family and society.
They kept bowing to the churches and trillionaires as their teeth and eyes fell out.
They kept talking about rapture and new bodies as their actual bodies dissolved with medieval, easily preventable diseases.
They kept hating their very children who told them they were wrong.
They kept ignoring the problem in their own souls. They determined they would rather destroy everything in hellish fires before admitting they were bamboozled, cheated, and betrayed.
They traded their family silver to a grifter with a few Machiavellian gestures and flashy hats. They bought fake elixirs that promised them they would live longer than ever before in history.
They even ignored the ones who died and came back, telling us that heaven is an untouched paradise where all that is dead is now alive, crystal clear waters, lush green forests and pastures, no lack, classless, moneyless, stateless, a utopia of peace and love for all, but that sounded too leftist of a heaven for these hateful folks.
They called us liars. They imagined a heaven reserved for people like themselves, with a few token minorities serving them. They wanted to walk straight from their church hallways into paradise, no self-examination, nothing resembling therapy or accountability.
But, heaven is not impressed by hierarchy, flags, money, or patriotic holidays.
Ego doesn't survive there. It falls away like it never existed.
If you want rapture, dance past greed. Fight power without becoming it.
If something must burn, let it be thrones, not forests.
If something must burn, let it be deeply entrenched systematic lies, not children.
Sacrifice your ego.
Let the empire of ego inside finally die,
so that life,
liberty,
and the pursuit of happiness
belong
to everyone.
At last on earth
As it is in heaven.

Be the Light of Your Own Healing
Since I was a teenager, I've processed life through poetry. Long before my near-death experience and ever since, writing has been how I explore healing, injustice, hope, grief, and the spiritual journey. Although I don't have a background as a professional musician, I became curious about whether AI could help bring some of my poems to life as songs. I've always joked that a "failed" academic poem can become a great song, and what do you know...my joke isn't far off the mark!
As an English professor, I do NOT support students using AI to write essays. AI takes the specificity and energy of the person out of the writing. We need to connect with the real voice of writers. Also, writing is a journey that helps us discover our deeper truths and has the power to help us heal.
However, I also believe AI can be used creatively and ethically as a tool for artistic experimentation. These songs are not meant to replace musicians. If anything, I would love to hear gifted musicians and singers reinterpret, remix, or cover them one day.
I also recognize the environmental concerns surrounding AI. Those concerns matter to me. I've lived a simple, low-impact life. My footprint on this earth has been incredibly low, and one of the most important messages from my near-death experience was to reconnect with nature. This musical project was a limited creative experiment rather than a new direction for my work.
In a few days, I'm posting one last song that means a lot to me. Music has a unique ability to open hearts in ways that debates often cannot. Music has long been a way for people to express hope, question injustice, and imagine a better future.
Many of these songs speak about healing, trauma, resilience, spirituality, and finding hope in difficult times. Sometimes music expresses emotions that ordinary conversation simply cannot.
Thank you for listening with an open heart. May you be blessed.

Be the Light of Your Own Healing
One of the clearest lessons I brought back from my NDE is that life is not just about achieving, accumulating, or proving our worth. Awakening is about growing beyond ego, remembering who we are, and how we show up for one another.
No matter your beliefs, creed, religion, or upbringing, being a source of encouragement, compassion, and strength for others is holy. Focus more on what connects you to the people around you.
Many near-death experiencers return with a similar message: love matters, kindness matters, and every small act of support creates ripples we may never fully see.
During my travels through India many years ago, I snapped a picture of a child begging on the side of the street. His big, beautiful eyes broke my heart in two. I wanted a better life for him and for every child in our country and around the world who is abandoned, orphaned, trafficked, or abused. The brutality of this world overwhelms me at times.
But, there is also great joy and hilarity in life. The other picture, with a group of young women, reminds me of all the times my sweet students have brightened my life, and I'm grateful for my mission to teach.
This song is called "Afterlife Glimpse." I wrote the lyrics. AI helped me imagine the music.

Be the Light of Your Own Healing
Sometimes mass awakening happens when enough people realize, "This has gone too far."
History is filled with moments when individuals and entire societies suddenly saw what they could not see before. Not because someone forced them to change. Not because they lost an argument, but they begin to see more clearly.
I believe that people can remember who they are beneath fear, division, jealousy, and the stories they have been taught to carry. They can rise to their sense of integrity and create a a world where nature is honored and children are safe from pedos even if these men are powerful and wealthy. There is a tipping point of what people can tolerate. This is not too much to ask of men and women. This is not a theological debate. It is basic morality that is completely out of balance in our society and others around the world
My new song, "Hey Brother," was inspired by that idea that illusions call fall away.
It is about remembering who you were before fear became the architecture of your soul. And perhaps most importantly, it is about holding hope that others can remember too.
I wrote the lyrics. AI helped me create the music.

Be the Light of Your Own Healing
Hello Beautiful Light-Filled Souls,
I just uploaded a new interview that many of you might find thought-provoking, especially the parts about healing generational programs and pain.
My guest is Rev. Devi Grace, who describes having two near death experiences as a child due to extreme levels of family violence. During our conversation, she shares memories of leaving her body, encountering what she calls spirit hospitals, appearing before ancestral councils, and returning with a deep sense of purpose.
P.M.H Atwater included Devi Grace's story in her second book, and Robert Schwartz consulted with her during his research. In this interview we explore how to heal ancestral wounds, and the role of love and grace in recovery.
One thing that stood out to me was her description of spirit hospitals. Her mission to heal the wounded masculine and feminine in humanities lines is an important mission and one we can all consider a bit deeper.
I'd love to hear what resonates with you and what questions the conversation raises for you. I approach these conversations with curiosity and a desire to understand how people make meaning from profound experiences and especially how they heal from challenging assignments here.
You can watch the interview here:

Thank you for being part of this community and for exploring these topics about consciousness and spiritual healing with me.
Many blessings,

Be the Light of Your Own Healing
When the world shows you conflict, fear, domination of others, cruelty, and insanity, remember that you do not have to become those things inside yourself. You can walk outside, feel the wind moving through the trees, place your feet on this beautiful earth, and reconnect with the deeper peace that exists. You can ask how you might center and bring in a different energy to a world undergoing fast change.
After my near-death experience, I became much more sensitive to energy, emotion, and sometimes even thought itself, and one thing I understood very clearly is that love is not weakness or passivity. Love is an actual energetic force of healing and connection that dissolves separation and reminds people of who they are beneath fear, ego, and performance.
Awakening is spreading in mass. Believe this even when groups of people continue to focus on fear and not love.
The more chaotic the world becomes, the more important it is to stay grounded, compassionate, discerning, and emotionally honest with ourselves instead of feeding the fear machine that profits from division and emotional exhaustion.
In this video, I talk openly about telepathy during my near-death experience, intuition after trauma, energetic awareness, and the importance of staying grounded while exploring these experiences.
I also believe it is important to verify what we feel through reality, patterns, actions, and discernment rather than becoming lost in fantasy or projection. Intuition is a guiding force that is meant to help us be of greater service to this world and to feel better about our journey here.
As a medium, I can't tell you how many times I've been blown away by the love I see from people's ancestors on the other side. If PTSD, cultural conditioning, untreated mental illness kept people from loving others her, once they are on the other side their true self has no separation and is complete love.
Fear doesn't heal us, it separates us. Pessimism doesn't give you the energy to be part of even small changes in your community. Loving yourself helps give you energy for life. The greatest thing we can do during times of massive change is to bring more healing, presence, and understanding into this world instead of adding more hatred to it.
