Two records from the Texas underground that tell the same story from two different cities. American Blues came out of Dallas and Houston with Dusty Hill on bass and Frank Beard on drums - both of whom went straight into ZZ Top when this band dissolved. Moving Sidewalks came out of Houston with a teenage Billy Gibbons on guitar, and the 99th Floor Eva compilation pulls together their key recordings from the same period. American Blues is organ-heavy psych-blues, raw and direct. This copy is the Microdot reissue - the originals on Karma are the ones still being hunted. Moving Sidewalks is fuzz and garage, and Gibbons sounds fully formed even at that age. Jimmy Page caught them on tour and called Gibbons one of the best young guitarists he'd seen in America. The Tantara originals are equally hard to find - like the American Blues pressings, the reissues are how most collectors know these records.
