We will then discuss who Zaid and Zainab were, what relationship they had, and what their relationship with the Prophet of Islam, Muhammad ﷺ, was. According to Islamic tradition, Zaid was the adopted son of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and the Prophet ﷺ arranged the marriage of his cousin Zainab to Zaid. However, Zainab was not willing to accept this proposal. About one year later, the marriage ended in divorce, and afterwards the Prophet ﷺ married Zainab. At that time, this marriage became the subject of criticism in Medina, and according to Islamic belief, God revealed verses in response to these objections. However, the discussion about this event did not come to an end, and even today, some Muslims regard it as a difficult issue.
