Every once in a while, someone asks what qualifies me to call football games on YouTube or offer an opinion about a penalty.
What a lot of people dont know is that in 2024, I worked Friday Nights as a TASO back judge (Texas Association of Sports Officials). I studied the rules, learned the mechanics and positioning, and had to make real decisions at full speed under the Friday night lights.
That doesn't mean I'm always right. Nobody is. But when I explain a holding call, or roast the officials for something they missed, I am not just yelling at the TV. I've worn the uniform and experienced how difficult officiating really is. (Even if it was only at the Highschool Football level)
I traded in the stripes for a tie, but everything I learned on that field still comes with me into every Football Nation broadcast.
Football Nation
This came up in my memories!
Before the tie, I used to wear stripes. 🏈
