Should you take ibuprofen instead of Tylenol after drinking alcohol? Not necessarily.
For healthy adults who do not habitually overdrink and do not have liver disease, there is insufficient evidence to suggest that a single, standard dose of acetaminophen increases hepatotoxicity. On the other hand, NSAIDs like ibuprofen can place a greater burden on the gastrointestinal tract and kidneys when taken on an empty stomach and in a dehydrated state after drinking.
However, caution is strictly required in cases of habitual heavy drinking, liver disease, taking medication on an empty stomach or in cases of malnutrition, or taking high doses, repeated doses, or overlapping doses of acetaminophen.
