Millie and Christine McKoy were born into slavery in North Carolina in 1851. As Black conjoined twins, they were exploited, exhibited, and treated as curiosities for profit. But their story did not end there. After emancipation, Millie and Christine became accomplished singers, musicians, and performers who traveled internationally. Most remarkably, they eventually purchased the farm where their family had once been enslaved. Their story is more than a story about conjoined twins. It is a story about exploitation, resilience, Black achievement, freedom, and ownership. History often remembers how people were treated—but we also need to remember how they fought to control their own lives. Millie and Christine McKoy were never just a spectacle. They were human beings who survived a system designed to deny them their humanity. #BlackHistory #MillieAndChristineMcKoy #ForgottenHistory #BlackExcellence #History
