Her name was Isabel Flores y De Oliva. She was born in Lima on April 20, 1586, the tenth of thirteen children. From a young age, she was called Rosa because of her beauty, and she received the name Rosa at her confirmation. At the age of 20, she joined the Third Order of Saint Dominic and took the name "Rose of Saint Mary." From her home, she dedicated her life to caring for the poor. She lived in a small cell or hermitage in the garden of her family home. She led a life of rigorous penance and intense Eucharistic and Marian piety. She offered her penances for the conversion of the Spanish and the evangelization of the indigenous people. She died on August 23, 1617, at the age of 32. Canonized by Pope Clement X in 1671.
