Happy Mid-Autumn Festival! 🥮🌕🏮This holiday is very special in Chinese culture. To celebrate, families reunite and gather to enjoy a big feast, eat mooncakes, and gaze at the gorgeous full moon. The theme is centered around unity which is why Mooncakes are round like the moon to symbolize togetherness and completeness.
This year I wanted to do something different for mid-autumn festival ~ so I made …. “Beef Wellington Mooncakes”!! with an extra Cantonese touch! 😉 Instead of a mushroom duxelle, I covered the beef tenderloin aka filet mignon with homemade XO sauce and wrapped it with prosciutto and the classic Cantonese Mooncake pastry. Every bite is an umami bomb packed with flavahhh! The beef tenderloin is super tender and pairs well with the savoryness of the XO & prosciutto. This is my first time making a savory Mooncake and I’m kinda into it. I look forward to making more in the future 😄
Ingredients:
beef tenderloin
xo sauce
prscuitto
cantonese pastry dough (see my traditional mooncake video for the recipe)
