In the race for Ohio governor, Democratic candidate Dr. Amy Acton responded Wednesday to a controversial ad produced by Republican candidate Vivek Ramaswamy's campaign.
The ad features Acton's estranged mother who accuses her daughter of lying about her childhood and having to live in a tent.
After a campaign event Wednesday on a Wyandot County farm, Acton told 10TV the ad was a horrible and hideous thing to do.
"A sad thing, and I feel like it was an exploitative thing to do. My mother is not well," Acton said. "So, I think it's despicable."
After a campaign event Tuesday evening, Ramaswamy confirmed the ad is from his campaign.
"For our part, we believe that the best way to do this would be to have an open debate between the two candidates," Ramaswamy said. "But in absence of that, I do think voters deserve answers about both candidates' background."
His campaign says it plans to spend $4 million dollars promoting it.
