In 1992, the band was originally established by Dr Colville Young Sr as the UCB Steel Band at the University College of Belize. Then in 1996, through the efforts of the Managing Director Ms Therese Martinez, the band officially became a private entity - The Pantempters Steel Orchestra. The members of the Orchestra are all volunteer musicians who devote time from their busy schedules and careers to come together primarily for the love of steel pan music. Currently, the Musical Director is Mr Herschel Armstrong. The Pantempters Steel Orchestra's versatile musical repertoire has been experienced at a variety of events and occasions in Belize as well as abroad. In order to pass on the joy of the steel pan to another generation, the Pantempters Juniors was formed in 2014 under the dedicated and disciplined direction of Mrs Hiroko Franklin. Belize’s premier steel band, the Pantempters Steel Orchestra, hopes to continue to entertain all music lovers of all ages with the melodic sounds of pan!
