I experiment with acrylic paint, published books under my pen name K. C. Brooks ‘The Little Book Of Encouragement & Devotional’, ‘Encouraging Seniors To Live Their Best Possible Life Now’, and Encouraging Others Through An Artist’s Story Of Hope’ and I make music for anyone who is interested in hearing gentle, relaxing sounds. I devote part of my time to visiting, and the other part of my time to training in the arts. I also give art lessons to senior citizens. I wrote, researched, compiled and printed an over two hundred page textbook in recreation entitled ‘Therapeutic Recreation Notebook’ and I am in the process of writing a Christian Devotional for seniors. I design my own handbags, dresses and bathing suits. All the proceeds go to Masonic Charities with the exception of cost I incur in production and supplies. I live a happy and fulfilling life at MHC. Have a wonderful day everyone. And May God continue to richly bless you and your families always and in all ways.

I am sincerely hopeful that my efforts to support individuals with disabilities and raise awareness about our needs and communities’ awareness of discrimination will resonate with the community. Together, we can end the devastating impact that discrimination has had on countless lives.
I have supported my two working disabled husbands, my parents, my sister and brother, my mother-in-law, some of my cousins, my aunt, numerous children in our family, and my pets. These were the individuals I held dear. Additionally, I provided support to individuals in 34 part-time or per diem jobs I held in underemployment or as volunteers.
Please refrain from making judgments about others, as you have not experienced our circumstances and are unaware of the services we provide or have provided to others. I leave such judgments to divine intervention.
I engaged in voluntary activities such as creating art, music, and writing to fill employment gaps and generously shared my creations. Despite never securing substantial gainful employment, I remained actively engaged in various endeavors. Our responsibility was to create our own work, and I did so, as did others I knew in similar situations. We were respected by our friends and family members for our contributions.
I have fulfilled my obligations and continue to produce per diem work at my own pace and in my own time.

I was forced to write this to administrators:
I am writing to report repeated disturbances that are affecting my ability to live peacefully. I have experienced three incidents where I was assaulted, and a recent incident where my entrance to the laundry room was blocked and I was shouted at.
Out of compassion I chose not to contact the police previously. Going forward, if any harassment, verbal abuse, physical contact, or interference with my quiet enjoyment continues, I will contact the police.
I am requesting your assistance in addressing this and ensuring a peaceful environment for all residents.
Sincerely,
Kathleen Casey Brooks

I find it hard to believe the harassment I faced because of my listening and processing deficit. My brain can’t hear, not my ears. Some even slashed my artwork, stole my books, and made me feel like an outsider. I wish they could read this book. Now, I can read books and remember details by listening and reading the written word. This is a huge breakthrough for me. Thank you to authors who make Kindle or Audible books available at the library and their printed versions too. It’s a new, wonderful world for me, and I’m so happy about it. I can now read and listen to books quickly at the same time and remember what I see and hear.

This poem was composed by me independently of Meta AI’s assistance. It was initially published on a website I created using name.com several years ago and subsequently included in a book titled “The Little Book of Encouragement,” subtitled: Jesus the Great Encourager. This book was first published in print and later released on Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP.com), ultimately becoming “The Little Book of Encouragement & Devotional.”

Kathleen Casey Brooks On The Importance of Equality in the Workplace
For multiple decades, I was not given a chance at serving full-time because of my multiple diagnoses. People always lectured me about serving substantially, but I was never granted substantial gainful employment. I had 34 part-time jobs, but employers thought hiring me full-time might become a liability, I was told by many of my medical professionals. Why did I have to suffer such an ill-fated existence? I was kind to everyone and was a hardworking employee.

The Dining Room staff at Masonicare Health Center is doing such a wonderful job preparing, presenting, and offering us healthy foods that I’ve managed to overcome one of my over 45 documented illnesses, pre-diabetes, and get my sugars back to normal! I’m so happy. Now with this new healthy diet, I might even be able to overcome the fatty liver disease and vascular diseases I currently have. I’m praying I will! Thinking of you friends in prayer too! #masonicare

I wanted to be a Teacher Assistant, and I was denied the opportunity because of my disability. My ultimate goal was to be an Elementary School Art Teacher. I had a 3.1 average in all my undergraduate work and a 3.5 average in my graduate work, and my program was made null and void by administrators who somehow managed to learn I had a psychiatric diagnosis. I think I would have made a fine art teacher, and the work I have done with seniors and in art itself is my proof of that fact. And while substituting, I received nothing but praise from the teachers of whom I covered. Also, one of my English Professors, Glen MacLeod, wrote one of the finest letters of recommendation I ever received.
But I was granted residency here at Masonicare, and no one here discriminates against me, no, not one.

Kathleen Casey Brooks advocates for a constitutional right to freedom of expression. The current administrators have unfairly had us remove most items displayed outside apartments, violating our right to express ourselves. I had to remove my paintings, and another resident had to do the same because her painting was of an original Kathleen Brooks painting. This is unjustified since I requested an investigation into a missing painting, which was later found in my room. After that, they also made me take down all the paintings I had donated to the sitting room. The previous administrators allowed us to display prints because they could be easily replaced, have little value, and are unlikely to be stolen. I don’t understand the reasoning behind these young administrators’ actions. Freedom of expression is a fundamental constitutional right. Let us encourage them to loosen up on the rules. This is our home! #masonicare #artworld #art #EqualityForAll #EqualityMatters That
