Weekly design news, minus the stuffy jargon. Broadcast graphics, snack packaging, video games, and everything in between. I make videos about the everyday design in the world around us.
I also host File New, a weekly live show covering industry news, creator gear, tech, and branding. The best segments and cutdowns get uploaded here.
Subscribe if you're a creator, a designer, or just someone who pays attention to the world around them. Graphic design, motion design, typography, branding, and whatever catches my eye this week.

The packaging is cool because it looks like a tennis ball container, but at the cost of not being recyclable. Is it worth it?
A new episode of my weekly design news show “File New” is going live at 1PM ET / 10 AM PT.
Also talking about the the packaging legal dispute between smuckers and Trader Joe’s, updates to YouTube, the MET Gala theme is changing, and more!

Design Doubloons from my newsletter:
#1 - My friends got tattoos in this matching style. The white contrast on the black is so nice. And the rendering on the wrinkles of that balloon…
#2 - This was a lamp not for sale 😭 at a thrift shop in Wicker Park. But it was caked in dust. If you’re not gonna let me buy it at least take care of it.
#3 - We went on one of the architecture boat tours of Chicago (which I HIGHLY recommend. It was incredible) but they punched our tickets with a little boat hole puncher as we boarded
#4 - Went to a Coney Island Cyclones game and saw the team get beaten to a pulp, but the neon sign for tickets was beautiful

What about the logos they DIDN'T go with? I asked 26 designer friends to rank the concept logos posted by Instagram's design team. Check out my new short to see if you agree: youtube.com/shorts/mYfOS5cCQ2U

Some “Design Doubloons” from this week’s Design Cache, my new weekly design newsletter.
1 - :) - Saw this on a hike. Thought the smiley on a barn was cute. Was pleasantly surprised to zoom in to see it was a basketball hoop.
2 - NOT FROM URBAN OUTFITTERS - My father-in-law told me this cooler has been in his family since the 1940’s. I looked it up online and I found this advertisement from the 1950’s that has the same logo.
3 - WHAT’RE YOU DUA-ing??? This is the funniest brand activation I have seen in a long time. Still haven’t gone to the website, but I love how that outfit apparently represents Dua Lipa?? lol
4 - AN UNEXPECTED BATHROOM SURPRISE: These waves were individually painted on this dirty bathroom floor. I edited out the pieces of stray toilet paper for you.
Plus a bunch of other design stories, inspiration, and the weekly rundown of videos/updates from me.

At first I thought it was interesting George Clooney was next to Obama in the HOPE poster. But when I looked more into it, I wasn't expecting a story with all the twists and turns I found: https://youtu.be/iwjOlgVQ3aE
