Adam Taggart is the founder of Thoughtful Money®, where your wealth = our #1 focus.

Thoughtful Money was created to educate & empower regular investors just like you build wealth to fund their life goals.

We do this by interviewing the top experts in money & the markets to give you actionable advice on how to protect & grow your wealth.

Why?

Because today’s environment is one of the most challenging ever for “regular” investors: inflation, high interest rates, recession risk, runaway debt & deficits, volatile financial markets, unstable banks & geopolitical threats — just to name a few. How will assets like stocks, bonds, real estate, commodities, gold, Bitcoin insurance policies, estate plans perform in the environment ahead?

Are you just trying to figure out how to protect your family’s financial future from these risks — and hopefully grow your wealth, too — without becoming collateral damage to market events?

We sure think that should be your focus. It’s certainly ours.

Am in flight to the New Orleans Investment Conference, where among my hosting duties, I'll be asked for my thoughts on macro & the markets

So as I organize my thoughts, I thought I'd share some here with you

1) The Time Is Now For Diversification

The AI trade is long in the tooth and has commanded sky-high valuations. I'm skittish about it, but...if you look at demand for compute and AI capex spending/building there's no sign of slowdown. This juggernaut could keep steamrolling on in 2027 & the opportunity cost of being out of the trade has been huge, so maintaining *some* exposure still makes sense. And be VERY careful with short bets against this megatrend.

Bonds are now an attractive alternative. They make more sense to hold in your portfolio at these yields than they have in over a decade. Plus, they should provide good cushion should stocks puke next year.

Capital has been skittishly rotating between growth and value all year. So if you're holding tech, you likely also want to hold some more defensive names, too, as a counterbalance.

Commodities are a wild card, IMO. Lots of reason to own them (structural scarcity, AI capex demand, inflation concerns, etc), but they are volatile. And if a market correction/economic slowdown happen next year, they're likely to whacked in the process. If Ukraine and/or Iran wars end, oil will prob get clobbered. Be good about harvesting any gains along the way, and seriously consider hedges.

And speaking of hedges, risk management in this environment should take high priority, IMO. Retain some cash as dry powder, consider stops/option hedges on large positions, rebalance often, etc -- remember, hogs get slaughtered.

2) It's Do Or Die Time for Precious Metals

Gold & silver prices have been weak all year after hitting blow-off tops in January, but the price action has been especially sick of late. They're now at new lows for the year. Technically, they seem a whisker away from breaking below key support. If they're going to stage a reversal rally, now is pretty much the time. Else it likely will get a lot harder for prices to recover anytime soon.

That said, there are lots of reasons why such a rally could happen (some would argue *should*). Several experts I interview now think that prices, especially of the PM mining stocks, offer ridiculous value.

In short, neither a breakdown or breakout would be surprising soon. Position yourself so that you aren't busted no matter which happens. IMO, this is a great environment for dollar-cost-averaging into new positions in the PM sector.

3) The Battle for the West Is Intensifying

Both domestically and abroad, the battle to control the identity & future of Western Civilization is heating up & will likely only get hotter next year.

Socialism vs Capitalism. Immigration vs Protectionism. Globalization vs Nationalism. Traditionalism vs Wokeism.
Western values vs Eastern ones.

Expect topics like these to continue to push themselves front & center. And all have economic consequences which is why, like it or not, investors need to pay attention to where the momentum is heading.

IMO, this fight for the West's future will be one of the most dominant social & investing trends of the next several decades. Monitor it, understand it, place your bets accordingly....and beyond all that, stand fast for the outcomes you want. We won't get the ones we want if we don't fight for them.

OK, the plane is starting its descent. So that's it for now.
